General dental care covers a wide range of services, focusing primarily on preventative care, minor restorations, and importantly diagnosis and treatment. It’s essential to see a general dental practitioner at least once every 6 months to ensure your teeth remain in top condition.

A significant part of general dentistry is providing preventative care and checking that our patients are maintaining good oral hygiene and dental health. If dental problems are identified during the check-up, our team will be able to perform the necessary restorative procedures to appropriately treat them.

While we don’t all require significant restorative treatment, we still need to be confident our dentist will treat the smallest task with the same passion and precision as they would for any complex task.

White Fillings: we utilise state of the art contemporary filling materials and are an amalgam-free practice.

Our innovative white tooth coloured filling material is 100% free from mercury, and can be colour matched to the exact shade, texture and translucency of your natural tooth enamel. As a highly durable material, this type of white filling does not expand or contract to temperature changes within the mouth, and protects your damaged tooth from further decay.

Childrens Dental: Our dental team is always delighted to care for your children’s dental health. We’re big believers in helping your kids develop good oral hygiene habits now, so that they can look after their teeth and smile in the future.

Our gentle team are always careful to make your kids’ dental appointment a positive experience, that’s memorable for all the right reasons! Our goal is to help your children become relaxed and confident about their visits to the dentist.

Fissure sealants: (or fissure seals) are clear or tooth-coloured coatings which we can place on the chewing surfaces of your back teeth to help prevent decay. By sealing off the natural pits and grooves in your teeth, they stop food and bacteria from entering these areas and causing dental caries (tooth decay).

Gum disease Treatment:  or periodontal disease, is the leading cause of tooth loss for Australian adults. An infection of the tissues that hold your teeth in place (the jaw bone and gums), periodontal disease ranges from gingivitis, a simple gum inflammation, to periodontitis, which causes serious often irreversible damage to your bone and soft tissue, and eventually tooth loss.

Mouthguards, Dentures Night splints and retainers : The team at Barwon Heads Dental have extensive experience and expertise in optimum fitting, comfortable and minimally invasive oral appliances. Jack has been fortunate enough to be heavily involved with the development of cutting edge digital mouthguard technology, working with a number of AFL and NRL sporting clubs as well as international UFC competitors and US college football teams. This knowledge has been transferred to all aspects of the dental practice utilising seamless digital scanning pathways. Jack is also involved in the training of these procedures and has presented and published his cases internationally

Root Canal Treatment: The objective of root canal treatment is to save a tooth that has been severely damaged because of decay, disease or injury. It is preferred to save your own tooth, where this is possible, as it will generally be better than an artificial tooth. Your own tooth is likely to be stronger and better for biting and chewing.

It may be necessary to have several visits to the dentist to have the root canals cleaned and the infected pulp to be removed.

Dental Hygiene: We provide optimal oral healthcare through offering our patients the services of a hygienist. Our hygienist, Martin Sinnett, is a highly skilled professional with university training and a decade of experience.

A hygienist is specifically trained to manage your oral health through gum assessment, removing plaque and calculus (tartar), polishing your teeth, and offering instruction for your ideal home regime. At your appointment the hygienist can also apply decay-preventing and other agents to maintain your oral health.

The inclusion of a hygiene appointment to your dental health program can significantly enhance preventive care. A hygienist’s professional clean is relevant for all age groups.

Our reception can arrange a visit to our hygienist on a separate occasion, or at the same time as your visit to our dentist. Contact us today to discuss your general oral health care.
